Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura o Hau Karetu – a warm welcome to Te Kura o Hau Karetu!

We are very proud to be an inclusive school who values every child who walks through our doors. We strive to build strong relationships between the school, whānau and tamariki – a child doesn’t come by themselves – they have a whole of family behind them! We have a team of hardworking staff who are passionate about your children and their learning and development – we all want them to become the best they can be and move mountains to make sure this happens.

We are fortunate to have two Māori Medium classes at our kura which opened in 2022, and 5 English Medium classes. We love the uniquenss of our school and the fact that we are also a small school – everyone knows everyone here - and that’s the way we like it. As Treaty partners, we are keen to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the way that we value Te Reo and Te Ao Māori/the Māori world. All teachers are committed to personally learning more Te Reo and teaching the Reo throughout the day as a natural part of our conversations with learners.

We have a great pastoral team here to support learning and behaviour needs for your child, and to support whanau/families with anything they may require. We are a PB4L School whose values underpin everything we do: Whakaute/Respect, Akohia/Learning, Kotahitanga/Togetherness, Atawhai/Kindness.

Our leadership team are dedicated to improving learning outcomes for our students. Learning and success is not just about being good at reading, writing, and mathematics, but other parts of the New Zealand Curriculum including but not limited to soft skills such as thinking, resilience, showing kindness/atawhai and whakaute/respect. We like to think that all our students see themselves as great learners who are successful at school, whatever their success.
